The Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed yesterday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Office of the United Nations secretary-general’s envoy on youth to support co-operation in joint programmes and projects on the sidelines of the 2nd Doha Forum Youth Edition.
HE the Director of Department of International Organisations Dr Yousef bin Sultan Laram and UN secretary-general’s envoy Jayathma Wickramanayake signed the MoU.
Laram explained that the MoU aims to support the office of the UN secretary-general’s envoy on youth, for three years, including co-operative support in programmes and projects of common interest that are agreed upon between the two sides.
He pointed out that the duration of the MoU is renewable with the consent of the parties and there will be a follow-up to the progress of these programmes and projects in addition to holding periodic consultative meetings.
He noted that co-operation between Qatar and the office of the secretary-general’s envoy on youth is not new, as there have been previous co-operation, including Qatar’s support for the peace and security conference held in the first half of 2019.
Laram pointed out that this co-operation contributes to the enhancement of the efforts of Qatar in its strategy and relationship with the UN, especially that in recent years many agreements have been signed between the two parties in various fields, all of which are aimed at strengthening relations with the UN.
Wickramanayake said that the partnership with Qatar comes within the framework of enabling the participation of young people in several areas, especially achieving sustainable development and participation in achieving security and peace.
