Qatar is participating in the 42nd International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) General Assembly 2019, which kicked off in Cape Town on Thursday.
The event is being attended by delegations from more than 160 countries and various regional and international organisations that work in the different standardisation fields.
The Qatari delegation is being led by the chairman of Qatar General Organisation for Standardisation and Metrology (QGOSM), Mohamed bin Saud al-Musallam, QNA reports.
The general assembly will discuss a number of important topics — including an extensive study of the general strategy of the ISO, which will start in 2021 and continue until the end of 2030, according to a statement by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
The session will also discuss a number of reports of relevant regional and international organisations and bodies, presented by experts in the environmental, economic and technological fields to study variables and developments and their impact in the field of standardisation, highlighting some opportunities and risks that may arise.
In addition, it will provide context and ideas for discussions to formulate the ISO's strategy and identify its priorities and orientations creating international standards, to keep up with global developments.
It will also discuss and approve the budget of the organisation and the financial contributions of the member states, in addition to the election of its members for the 2020-2022 period and other financial and administrative matters.
On September 17 and 18, the Qatari delegation had attended the 53rd session of the Committee to Support Developing Countries.
During the meeting, a number of topics were discussed, including the challenges faced by developing countries in the fields of standardisation and their relevance to global variables through discussion groups on future trends in conformity assessment.
