The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs on Sunday formed a national team specialising in sighting crescents.
The ministry said in a statement that the team would specialise in sighting the crescents of Ramadan and Shawwal according to the Islamic legislation.
The announcement was made during a ceremony held at the ministry's headquarters in presence of HE the Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr Ghaith bin Mubarak al-Kuwari.
The ministry has succeeded in implementing the project of training and qualifying the Qatari team through a long journey of continuous work. A group of imams and specialists attended a course.
The course was carried out through three stages that combined theoretical knowledge and field trainings.
The ministry provided the team with all the necessary equipment for the sighting of crescents.
In the near future, the ministry will ensure that more courses are held in co-ordination with experts and specialists from renowned related institutions.
Expressing pride in the team, HE Dr al-Kuwari said that the ministry was pleased to form the team. He thanked sheikhs and experts for training the team. The field training was organised during the months of Rajab, Shaaban and Ramadan.
He also stressed that the ministry would continue to organise more courses in this field.Last updated: June 02 2019 10:56 PM
