Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has been visited by a delegation from the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Office of Middle East Affairs.
The visitors were in Qatar to hold talks with different charities and humanitarian providers.
The delegation was headed by Scott Shiller, adviser for North Africa, USAID; and received by Ali bin Hassan al-Hammadi, secretary-general; Ibrahim Abdullah al-Maliki, executive secretary; Dr Mohamed Salah Ibrahim, executive director of Relief and International Development; Abdullah Hamid al-Mulla, director of Communication and Public Relations; and Dr Fawzi Oussedik, head of International Relations, at QRCS.
During the meeting, the QRCS and USAID representatives discussed their respective operations and fields of work. They agreed on a unified mechanism of communication with the QRCSs headquarters in Doha and foreign offices.
Al-Hammadi welcomed any initiative for working together on sustainable development and field intervention projects across the Middle East. More opportunities of co-operation are seen in youth empowerment, economic empowerment and sustainable aid.
The meeting emphasised the importance of concerted efforts for the success of long-term development programmes, regionally and internationally, QRCS said in a statement.
According to al-Hammadi, a new QRCS relief and development strategy is under way for the coming five-year period.
“The projects implemented under our previous strategy, and those to be initiated under the proposed one - all were in line with the overall policies of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, as well as the guidelines of Qatar’s Regulatory Authority for Charitable Activities,” he asserted.
