HE Ibrahim Ibrahim, vice-chairman, Al-Attiyah Foundation celebrated the launch of the book with Foundation members from Qatargas and Sasol.

The Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah International Foundation for Energy and Sustainable Development launched its book titled “Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR): Best Practice Guidelines” at the Qatar Green Building’s Conference in Doha Sunday. 

Signed copies of the book were handed to Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al-Thani, CEO of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development as well as the CEOs of the Foundation’s partner and member companies.
HE Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah said, ‘’Companies today are recognising how being a socially responsible organization can have a positive impact on their bottom line. The aim of this handbook is to serve as a guide and useful reference tool for governments, industry and anyone involved in implementing impactful CSR programmes. I am pleased to see some of our members’ CSR Case-Studies, appearing in the book too.” 
Qatargas chief executive officer Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa al-Thani said, “Qatargas supports the work of the Al-Attiyah Foundation and is pleased to submit a case-study about our Jetty Boil-Off Gas (JBOG) Recovery Facility. This $1bn facility is entirely environmentally driven and one of the largest of its kind in the world. The energy saved from this initiative every year is sufficient to power approximately 300,000 homes and to reduce emissions by 1.6mn tonnes of CO2 equivalent.’’
The book looks at how current approaches to sustainable development are influencing CSR practices. 
Building upon the Foundation’s 2017 publication on Sustainable Development Goals and Energy Nexus, it examines key international standards, guidelines and principles, related to CSR that have emerged through UN or other multilateral processes, or established by industry or business associations.
The book also explores different CSR Initiatives through the lens of four main characteristics: whether or not it’s aligned with government developmental agendas; if it is integrated as part of a company’s core business; if it addresses social needs and if it has a positive impact on the environment.
Local and international companies such as Qatargas, Qatar Airways, Qatar Shell, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, and Sasol, based in Qatar, contributed to the book by providing case-studies of their recent CSR programmes. 
They provide a useful insight into the impact and sometimes, global replicability, of such initiatives.
