Qatar and Paraguay held a session of official talks chaired by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and President Mario Abdo Benitez, at the Presidential Palace in Paraguay’s capital city of Asuncion, Wednesday evening.
HH the Amir arrived Wednesday in Paraguay on a state-visit as part of his four-nation Latin American tour, which has taken him to Ecuador and Peru, with Argentina to follow.
At the beginning of the meeting, President of Paraguay welcomed HH the Amir and the accompanying delegation. He expressed his pleasure at HH the Amir's accepting the invitation to visit Paraguay, especially as it coincides with the 17th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the two countries, looking forward to strengthening bilateral relations of friendship and co-operation in the coming years.
For his part, HH the Amir expressed his thanks to the President for the warm welcome and affirmed his keenness to strengthen relations with Paraguay and develop them for the benefit of the two friendly countries and peoples.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the cooperation relations at various levels, especially in the economic, investment, trade and cultural areas, as well as the air transportation sector.

The talks also dealt with the latest developments on the regional and international arenas of common interest.
The meeting was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying His Highness the Amir.
On the Paraguay side, it was attended by the Vice President Hugo Velazquez, and a number of ministers and senior officials.
The Amir also paid a visit to Paraguay's National Congress building. Upon arrival, the Amir was greeted by Silvio Ovelar, President of the National Congress and President of the Senate, and his deputy Miguel Cuevas, chairman of Chamber of Deputies, and a number of members of the two chambers of the National Congress.
During the visit, the Amir reviewed with the President of the National Congress and his deputy and members the prospects of developing friendly relations and co-operation between the two countries, particularly in the legislative and parliamentary fields, as well as the exchange of experiences in related fields.
Earlier, on his arrival at Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, the Amir was greeted by Minister for Foreign Affairs of Paraguay Luis Alberto Castelloni, and Charge d'Affaires of the Qatar embassy to Paraguay Abdul Rahman Ahmed al-Suwaidi, and ambassador of Paraguay to Qatar Angel Ramon Barchini, as well as the members of the Qatar embassy in Paraguay and a number of Paraguayan school students.
At the reception ceremony at the airport, the Amir was handed over the key to the city of Asuncion by Mayor of Luque Carlos Echeverria, as the guest of honour of the Republic of Paraguay, expressing the friendly relations between the two countries.
