Qatar and Australia are set to boost ties in various fields, it was announced on Tuesday in connection with the visit of Australia’s Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources David Littleproud.
HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani met the visiting dignitary and his accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, they discussed aspects of co-operation between the two countries and means of supporting and strengthening them in various fields, the official Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.
HE the Minister of Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohamed al-Thani and the Australian minister reviewed the bilateral relations and aspects of mutual co-operation, especially in economy, trade and investment, and ways to promote them.
The two sides also discussed the Australian livestock exports to the Middle East. The volume of trade exchange between Qatar and Australia reached nearly QR2.97bn in 2017. Australia is the 24th trading partner of Qatar.
There are 144 Australian companies operating in Qatar, of which 15 are wholly owned by Australians, while 129 are joint venture companies with Australian-Qatari capital. The companies are engaged in the fields of trade, contracting, construction, engineering consultancy, marine services, food trade, and others.
HE the Minister Municipality and Environment Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaihi discussed with the Australian minister means of enhancing co-operation between both countries in agriculture and food security, QNA added. Page 3
