Ooredoo “will retire” its 10Mbps ‘Wireless Home Broadband with Landline’ service from March 5 as part of efforts to enhance “Supernet experience” of its customers, the telecommunications company said.
In a statement sent to Gulf Times, Ooredoo said the ‘Wireless Home Broadband’ relies on cellular technology, “which means that speeds are dependent on the load and number of customers using 4G services in the same area.”
“To ensure that everyone enjoys a leading network experience, Ooredoo will retire its 10Mbps ‘Wireless Home Broadband with Landline’ service on March 5, 2017,” the statement further stated.
In an earlier announcement, Ooredoo advised customers to visit an Ooredoo Shop “to upgrade to a superfast Fibre Broadband service, which includes the Ooredoo tv essentials bundle for just QR250 per month.”
“10Mbps‘Wireless Home Broadband with Landline’ connections that have not been upgraded within 30 days of this announcement will be automatically switched to the 100Mbps ‘Wireless Home Broadband with Landline’ service at QR500 per month,” the announcement said.
Following this, some Ooredoo customers, including Ooredoo tv and Mozaic subscribers, had sought for more clarity about the announcement. Gulf Times also received some queries on this.
But sources clarified that the 10Mbps‘Wireless Home Broadband with Landline’ does not include cable TV features, and does not affect Mozaic and Ooredoo tv subscribers.
“Subscribers of the 10Mbps‘Wireless Home Broadband with Landline’, which is QR233 per month, should personally go to an Ooredoo Shop and submit the wireless device – a router with SIM card – and apply for fibre,” said the source, who added that the upgrade cannot be done online.
The Ooredoo statement clarified that “Customers upgrading to a new Ooredoo Fibre line from the ‘10Mbps Wireless Home Broadband with Landline’ service will have a host of benefits, including a faster and more reliable Internet speed and access to Ooredoo’s 4K enabled Ooredoo tv service for just QR17 extra per month.”
It added: “10Mbps Wireless Home Broadband with Landline users who do not upgrade to an Ooredoo Fibre line by this deadline will be upgraded to the superfast 100Mbps ‘Wireless Home Broadband with Landline’ service at QR500 per month.
“10Mbps Wireless Home Broadband with Landline subscribers who do not wish to be upgraded to the 100Mbps plan are requested to visit their nearest Ooredoo Shop to subscribe to an Ooredoo Fibre line.”
