CNA-Q Toastmasters is the student exclusive toastmasters’ club at the College of North Atlantic – Qatar (CNA-Q). The club chartered in December last year, and within five months, achieved the distinguished club status. Apart from that, the club has also produced a lot of leaders and excellent communicators who have been taking part in various events organised by toastmasters as well as holding positions in various Division and Area executive committees.
Mahnoor Shahid, President of the Club, says, “We are very proud to provide a safe space for students to practice their leadership, public speaking, and communication skills. It’s extremely rewarding to watch students tackle these skills, and slowly gain confidence throughout their toastmasters’ journey. The skills learned from this club aid both in our personal and professional lives. From making new friends, excelling in interviews, acing presentations to mastering public speaking and communication, our club is proud to offer it all to our students.”
Shana said: “I have been an on-off member with toastmasters since 2015. I am incredibly happy that I re-instated my membership when I joined CNA-Q. This time, I am staying. I believe I can help my fellow members with their personal development in the areas of communication, public speaking and leadership while developing myself. We grow together and when we graduate we are equipped with some of the skills that are required at work. The only challenge right now is the online club meetings as it is very difficult to get people to join in on the fun.”
Currently, 22-member strong, the club has been meeting online ever since schools and colleges shut down in the beginning of March 2020 due to the pandemic. “We still continue to meet even if only 10 members can make it. We only have meetings twice a month, so we look forward to it as we get to meet each other. It helps us feel connected,” she added.
The club executive committee also includes; Hazil Mohamed, vice president Membership; Ahamed Yaseen Salim, vice president Public Relations; Zainab Malol, secretary; Abdelrahmane Belhadj, treasurer; Tuba Mustafa, Sergeant-at-Arms.
